What our customers think about Acumiho

I was new to this type of treatment and a little nervous, but Miho made me very comfortable. I was desperate for relief from very painful carpal tunnel problem in my wrist. I couldn’t sleep at night since it was so painful when I lied dormant. I received 3 wonderful treatments from Miho and after the First one, I slept all night long!!

Susan Kirby

I had doubts as a surgeon that acupuncture would work. However after just one treatment I clearly noticed an improvement in my back and shoulder problems. It was really amazing. I look forward to additional treatments.

Harold Friedman MD,PhD

I thank Miho for the treatment as my pain had been eliminated. She also taught me how to do moxibustion at home, this stops me from taking painkillers as I now give myself moxibustion whenever I have pain or something like for example, the beginning of cold. We all have to be fit to enjoy a rich and fulfilled life. I gained that by meeting Miho.

Frequently Asked Questions

Worried about our treaments? our FAQ will put your mind at ease

Is Acupuncture or Moxibustion painful?

There are two types of moxibustion: direct and indirect. In direct moxibustion, a small, cone-shaped amount of moxa is placed on top of an acupuncture point and burned. This type of moxibustion is further categorized into two types: scarring and non-scarring. With scarring moxibustion, the moxa is placed on a point, ignited, and allowed to remain onto the point until it burns out completely. This may lead to localized scarring, blisters and scarring after healing. With non-scarring moxibustion, the moxa is placed on the point and lit, but is extinguished or removed before it burns the skin. The patient will experience a pleasant heating sensation that penetrates deep into the skin, but should not experience any pain, blistering or scarring unless the moxa is left in place for too long.

Indirect moxibustion is currently the more popular form of care because there is a much lower risk of pain or burning. In indirect moxibustion, a practitioner lights one end of a moxa stick, roughly the shape and size of a cigar, and holds it close to the area being treated for several minutes until the area turns red. Another form of indirect moxibustion uses both acupuncture needles and moxa. A needle is inserted into an acupoint and retained. The tip of the needle is then wrapped in moxa and ignited, generating heat to the point and the surrounding area. After the desired effect is achieved, the moxa is extinguished and the needle(s) removed

Are the needles reused?

NO, not under any circumstances. Acumiho only uses the very best individually wrapped, single-use needles. After every session each needle is placed in a bioharzard sharps container for safe disposal.

How long is a standard treatment course?

Acumiho recommends that Acupuncture is most effective if sessions are done 1-2 times per week initially. This creates momentum and lasting results.   As the condition improves, the treatments are done less frequently. Many issues (especially simple pain conditions) respond very quickly and are resolved within one to two treatments. For more chronic, internal problems, 4-6 or more visits are often needed . Even with chronic, long standing health problems, patients generally feel immediate relief after treatment, but may need several more visits for lasting change.

When can I expect to start seeing results?

Many issues (especially simple pain conditions) respond very quickly with a noticable result within one to two treatments. For more chronic, internal problems, 4-6 or more sessions are often needed . Even with chronic, long standing health problems, patients generally feel immediate relief after treatment, but may need several more visits for lasting change.

Will this affect my current medical treatment plan?

Before undertaking any form of hollistic treatment including Acupuncture and Moxibustion you should always seek out medical advice from your own doctor who will advise you if the treatment could cause any issues. It has been noted in various journals that both Acupuncture and Moxibustion can enhance an existing medical treatment plan.
